A QR code is a type of two-dimensional barcode consisting of black squares arranged in a square grid on a white background, which can be read by an imaging device such as a camera.
The example QR code shown here links to the Wikipedia mobile device page.
To use it, turn on your mobile ‘phone camera and point it at the QR code. If your ‘phone has a QR code reader app installed, it will read the code and give you an option to visit the link embedded in the QR code.
The main reason for incorporating a QR Code in your leaflet design and other marketing materials is to make it easy for people to access information on a digital platform. This may be a specific page on your website, one of your social media feeds, etc.
People will tend to take the route of least resistance so they are more likely to quickly scan a QR code than spend the time typing in a web address. This is a great reason for incorporating a QR Code in your leaflet.
In addition it is still relatively unusual so there is an additional curiosity factor that can make people scan the code which can lead to greater levels of engagement and ultimately to an increased response rate.
There are many ways to create a QR code, many of which are free. Simply go to your preferred search engine and search “Generate a QR Code”. You will get many results – simply choose the option that is best for you.
