Brand marketing is a long-term strategy normally used by large companies to build and increase awareness of their brand and to differentiate them from their competitors. Brand marketing can be very expensive and is often not a viable option for most SME’s.
Direct response marketing is designed specifically to elicit a response from your target audience. The great thing about direct response marketing is that you can quickly tell whether it is working – it either produces a response or it doesn’t. This enables you to test and measure the impact of your strategy on a small scale and change it if it is not working or increase it if it does work.
Leaflet distribution is almost always used as a direct marketing tool. When designing leaflets, may people fall into the trap of promoting their brand rather than their services and then wonder why they don’t get the results they want or expect. Leaflets should be designed to focus on the target market and make clear offers to encourage response.
